A new and updated version of the 2009 Ghostbusters game is hitting PS4, Xbox One, PC and Nintendo Switch later this year. The original game put you in the boots of a "The Rookie," a new Ghostbuster as New York City is hit with another ghost filled disaster that only our unlikely jumpsuit wearing heroes can stop. The game also features the main cast of the original movies, lending their voices and faces are Dan Aykroyd as Ray Stantz, Harold Ramis as Egon Spengler, Ernie Hudson as Winston Zeddemore, and the always funny Bill Murray as Peter Venkman. The original, iconic theme song Is also there, of course.

Unlike the Wii version, the version of the game that landed on PS3 and Xbox 360 is more about the intense ghost capturing using the Ghostbusters' signature proton pack. The gameplay is a third-person shooter, but instead of using guns, the proton pack is your main weapon against the hordes of the supernatural. Once the ghosts are weakened enough, throw down a trap to capture them for good. Throughout the game, the pack can be upgraded to fire different effects like shock and slime all with different modes. The gameplay stays as authentic as it can to the original movies while also offering new and exciting features. There are also a few multiplayer modes, but those are separate from the main story.

The storyline of Ghostbusters: The Video Game Remastered takes place a couple of years after the 1989 film LEGO: Dimensions. This game might be the closest thing we get to a true sequel, as a real Ghostbusters 3 has had a lot of trouble getting made. With the full cast being here, it feels authentically Ghostbusters, so I think that is just fine.

I think there is plenty of room for another game like this one, preferably with coop play. Imagine teaming up with your friends to capture rowdy spirits, blasting proton packs, and cleaning up NYC from supernatural threats. Only time will tell if another game will come out, but until then this remaster will fill the appetite of any aspiring ghost hunter. There is no release date as of now, but if the game drops around Halloween time at the height of spooky fun that would be quite the treat. But when you're out blasting ghosts with your proton pack and saving New York, don't cross the streams!
