A lot of different games flash across my TV, some of them good and some of them are not so good. If you're looking for a great gaming recommendation you are reading the right article. Each and every month I'll give you the update on my favorite game I played over the last 30 or 31 days. Some of these games will be newer releases and some will be ancient games that I dug out of my dusty old cabinet but they'll always be something I'm ionate about.

Ok, I've definitely talked about FortniteĀ here before but I didn't expect to still be loving this game nearly half a year later but this multiplayer phenomenon seems to be showing no signs of slowing down. Though the game's free Battle Royale mode was initially met with skepticism from players, especially because of the game's self-acknowledged comparison to PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, the constant evolution to the gameplay and visuals has guaranteed thatĀ Fortnite maintains its relevance.

It may seem unfair to so directly compareĀ Fortnite andĀ PUBG but when the mode was first revealed it wasĀ Fortnite that seemed like the underdog. The game's art style was off-putting to fans of PUBG's more realistic and weighted approach and the term "free-to-play" has definitely left a bad taste in the mouth of most gamers. However, FortniteĀ seems intent on breaking out of the negative mold that surrounded it by being consumer friendly in nearly every conceivable way. Meanwhile, a lack of updates is something that has seenĀ PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds remain stagnant, especially on the Xbox One version, and the game's dominance, while still strong, doesn't seem to be guaranteed forever.Ā

While everyone was hesitant to believeĀ thatĀ Fortnite could hold a candle to PUBG it wasn't out of the question for anyone to give the game a try since it was free, and that's exactly what hooked players in.Ā Fortnite Battle Royale being a free game means that there is no barrier to entry, the servers will always be populated with people, and you're constantly getting a surge of new players. Heck, you don't even need PlayStation Plus to play the game so simply owning a console with an internet connection is enough to get you in the door on one of the best game's of the generation (though it looks like you need Xbox Gold to play with Microsoft's console.)Ā

The game is also much more family friendly than PUBG, though both games are T-rated.Ā FortniteĀ leans into a cartoon-y aesthetic with sci-fiĀ influences throughout and the actual gameplay doesn't come across as though you're hurting enemies but kicking them out of some sort of "Battle Royale" type simulation when defeated (at least that's what little can be gleamed from the teleportation that happens to an eliminated player.) It's rare that a multiplayer game about shooting at enemies can be loved by all ages butĀ Fortnite does so brilliantly.Ā
While there's still a lot that could change in the coming months to bothĀ Fortnite and its rival, it's clear that the game has much stronger legs than anyone could have expected.Ā
PUBG and Fortnite are the champions of the Battle Royale game type.
