Sixteen-year-old Aussie actor Callan McAuliffe is getting to be a familiar face after starring in Flipped and as the nerd-turned-hero Sam in the blockbuster action movie I Am Number Four. We had the chance to catch up with Callan and ask him what movie stardom's been like!

KW:  How did you first get into acting?

• Callan: I always wanted to buy a dog, but hadn’t the money. I ed a local talent agency – I’d heard about them through friends – and decided to audition for a few commercials.

KW:  How did you get the part in I Am Number Four? Were you surprised?

• Callan: It’s always surprising when you’re chosen out of hundreds of people! I auditioned for the role while I was in the U.S. for Flipped publicity. I found out that I got the part and had to fly directly to Pittsburgh to start shooting. It was totally unexpected but really fantastic.

 KW: The last couple of films you’ve done have been in the U.S.; do you find it different than the roles you had in Australia?

• Callan: Not really; the American projects have been considerably larger in scale, yet both countries use the same cameras and equipment. I suppose the only major difference is the accents.

KW: I Am Number Four has really put you in the spotlight; how do you feel about it?

• Callan: I’d be lying if I said it felt bad!

KW:  What is the most fun thing you’ve done on screen so far?

• Callan: Well that’s hard to narrow down, but I’d say using the alien gun in I Am Number Four tops the chart.

KW: It really comes through on film that you have a great sense of humor; do you seek out roles that are funny?

• Callan: I like roles that are entertaining for myself, as well as other people – be it comedy, drama, action, etc.

KW:  Do you think you’re similar to your character in I Am Number Four?

• Callan: Not in the slightest!

KW: What’s something most people don’t know about you?

• Callan: I love Thomas the Tank Engine. I still have a huge collection of classic stainless-steel trains. I’m also a huge fan of movie soundtracks and Hans Zimmerman is one of my favorite composers.

KW: Who would you like to work with in the future?

• Callan: Johnny Depp, Ellen Page, Jessica Alba, Johnny Depp or Johnny Depp. Maybe even Johnny Depp!
