The once beautiful land of Lyonesse is sinking. It’s moving closer and closer to the monsters that live in the watery swim, you were a monster. Simple as that. So when Idris struggles in the water to stay alive, he is sentenced to execution. But a man called Ambrose knows that there’s more to Idris than meets the eye. He has a gift—an ability to hear thoughts and see through the eyes his bird Kek.

Idris is brought to a monstergroom training facility where he learns how to capture and cage monsters for fuel. But being able to hear their thoughts makes his King Arthur, but the world seems to have a timeless quality. The monsters add an element of fantasy that gives Lyonesse an unearthly feel. There is action, intensity, a solid plot line and brave characters—all important elements to make a quality young adult fiction story.
