About Asparagus 206v70

Why’s this skinny green veggie so good for you? There are a few reasons…

  • Dietary fiber
  • Vitamin A
  • Vitamin C
  • Vitamin B folate
  • Low in fat
  • Low in sodium
  • No cholesterol

Cooking Tips Asparagus steams quickly and keeps its bright-green color. Steaming is one of the best preparations for veggies. It enhances the natural fresh flavors and is also a very healthy way to cook, since it doesn't require the addition of any butter, oil or salt. Almost any pan with a lid can be turned into a steamer. All you need is a collapsible steamer basket.

Equipment b5z5a

  • Cutting knife
  • Cutting board
  • Measuring cups
  • Pan with lid
  • Collapsible steamer basket

Ingredients 412u6g

  • 1 pound asparagus, stems trimmed
  • 1 cup water

Directions d3k6e

Place water in steamer (just enough, so the bottom of the steamer basket will not touch the water), and arrange asparagus spears in the steamer basket. Place the basket in the pan and cover. When water comes to a rapid boil, add the asparagus and cook to desired tenderness. (Most average thickness asparagus will take 7 minutes, but thicker stalks take more time and pencil thin ones take only a few minutes.) Add salt and pepper and serve immediately. You may add a little butter if you wish.
